The 12 Best Luxury Hotels in Maui

Looking for the ultimate luxury vacation in Maui? Well here are the 12 best luxury hotels in Maui for you!

I’ve stayed at four of these hotels, and the rest are on my Maui bucket list for future trips! But I’ve gone ahead and done the research on those, too, so that you have a complete list to work with!

Some of these luxury hotels in Maui are best for families, others are best for couples. (Don’t worry, I include which is which!)

Whether you want a romantic getaway or a golfers paradise, you’ll find all the details here!

1. Andaz Maui

The Andaz Maui is a concept hotel created by Hyatt. It happens to be number one on my personal list of favorite luxury hotels in Maui! You can find this five-star luxury resort just off Wailea Alanui Drive in the southwest of Maui. The resort is spread out over 15 acres of pristine sand near popular Wailea Beach.

The resort is a good spot for couples who want a bit of pampering and romance on their vacation to Maui. Visitors receive a warm welcome with complimentary lavender lemonade and fragrant tuberose floral lei.

The Andaz has a number of different rooms (over 300 to be exact) to choose from including regular guest rooms, suites, and villas. Each one has modern details that, along with the resort’s location, speak to the luxurious paradise that is the Andaz.

The grounds also boast of the best boutique shops including Cobalt and Tawny, Jaxsea, swimwear brand Makena Collection, and others. You can also enjoy any number of amenities at the hotel such as a 24-hour gym, four cascading infinity pools, and five fine-dining restaurants.

And this is a strange thing to notice, but I have to say it always smells good at the Andaz! (Like the tuberose lei they place on your neck!) Read more about our stay here!

2. Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Located further down Wailea Beach is the luxe Waldorf Astoria operated Grand Wailea resort.  The Grand Wailea is a five-star luxury beachfront property that is perfect for families who are looking to splurge a little on the very best stay in Maui.

The resort is massive! It has four pools, three jacuzzis, fun waterslides, and the world’s only water elevator!

Speaking of fun waterslides, the resort is a great place to bring the kids. The Grand Wailea has plenty of activities for its younger visitors to stay busy all day, while parents take some time to get pampered or join in on the fun. The resort has an extensive kids program with an arcade, snack bar, movie theatre, and kid-friendly excursions.

The Grand Wailea has eight dining options and served our favorite breakfast of any stay at Maui’s resorts!

3. The Ritz Carlton, Kapalua

Ritz Carlton’s five-star Maui hotel is located in the northwest of Maui, in Kapalua. While a stay here will be great for those interested in a resort-style vacation, it was definitely designed with golfers in mind!

The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua has two championship golf courses that stretch across the grounds and touch the ocean, making a walk to the beach just a bit longer than some other properties that are on the sand. However, this might have more to do with the unique geography of Kapalua, which has some rocky cliff areas near the hotel.

The Ritz boasts of an incredible spa that offers a holistic approach to wellness. The spa menu includes everything from deep cleansing facials to exfoliating scrubs and, of course, the standard massages that will loosen any aching muscles!

The area is great for a leisurely walk along the coastal trail which leads to the Kapalua Labyrinth and Dragon’s Teeth. The latter is a natural rock formation on the edge of Maui shaped like the sharp teeth of a dragon, which the former is a circular labyrinth similar to that of Chartres Cathedral.

For an excellent meal, make a reservation at Banyan Tree, one of six restaurants at the resort, which uses local ingredients and traditional methods in its dishes.

4. Hotel Wailea

Hotel Wailea via Booking.com

The fifteen-acre Hotel Wailea is a gem in Maui’s Wailea Beach area. The five-star hotel is low density, with only 72 suites open to guests.

If you’re looking for romance, this is it! Hotel Wailea is adults-only for those couples who want a tranquil stay away from kids (their own or other people’s).

As I mentioned, the resort only has suites. That means a massive space with separate bedrooms and living spaces for each guest room! Unfortunately, the resort is about a mile from the sand. No need to worry, though, because the Hotel Wailea offers complimentary car service to the beach or anywhere else you would like to go. And you will be traveling in style, inside a touchless Tesla Model X!

But here’s the best part, and it is all about food! The Hotel Wailea has an uber-exclusive dinner for two at a place called The Treehouse. Reservations are required well in advance at this curated experience prepared and served by a personal chef while you look out at the setting sun surrounded by mango trees.

5. Four Seasons Wailea

Four Seasons via Booking.com

The second to last of the luxury hotels in Maui on the strip along Wailea Beach, The Four Seasons is a fantastic and secluded resort for a more tranquil visit.

A stay at the Four Seasons is a five-star luxury experience. For starters, the rooms are spacious and modern. The details are all on point, with soft pillows emblazoned with the Four Seasons logo, and ultra-soft sheets that stay cool all night.

The resort has dozens of private cabanas spread out across the property, many of which overlook the ocean and surrounding greenery. Dining is divine with several top restaurants, including Wolfgang Puck’s Spago, and room service is a 24-hour affair.

Amenities at the Four Seasons include a golf course, salon and spa, and a complimentary car service that will take you anywhere in Wailea. All of these great perks- and I haven’t even mentioned that the Four Seasons is the only Maui resort that does not charge a resort fee!

7. Fairmont Kea Lani Resort

Fairmont Kea Lani via Booking.com

The five-star Fairmont Kea Lani Resort is the last of the 5-star luxury hotels in Maui along Wailea Beach. The resort is a 30-minute drive from Kahului Airport and offers all kinds of excellent amenities!

The Fairmont has some of the best suites and villas of any luxury hotel in the area, with massive rooms (at least 850 square feet) and views of the Maui mountainside or the ocean. In fact, it is the only luxury all-suite and villa resort in Hawaii.

Lay on a lounger near one of the Fairmont’s three pools or take a short walk to the beach for a swim in the ocean. For a more relaxing time, the Willow Steam Spa deserves a visit. Let them pamper you with a unique blend of wellness packages and steam services.

6. Montage Kapalua Bay

Montage Kapalua Bay via Booking.com

Montage Kapalua Bay is one of the largest five-star resorts in Maui. The property spreads out across 24 acres that feel much closer and cozier than you would expect! Here, you will find a top choice golf course, wellness spa, and brilliant restaurants with sunset patios.

Other than the cascading pool and nearby beach, you can participate in a number of Hawaiian activities at the resort. The Montage has a full schedule of fun event including coconut husking, lei making, hula lessons, and more! The dining is divine with delicious Hawaiian ingredients and flavors at the resort’s restaurants.

Kids will enjoy collecting Montage Merits, which is a clever way to keep the little ones engaged. There are twelve badges to collect after participating in the resort’s activities that will earn a grand prize Humuhumunukunukuapua’a pin!

However, there’s one more reason to stay at the Montage Kapalua Bay: the view. All ocean-view rooms look out over two bays: Kapalua Bay and Namalu Bay. But the best part is watching a Hawaiian sunset with the massive peak of Kamakou on the neighboring island of Moloka’i.

8. Travaasa Hana

Travaasa Hana via Booking.com

Looking for luxury hotels in Maui on the east coast? You’ll only find one!

Travaasa Hana is a four-star resort in Maui’s town of Hana that caters to experiential travelers. Don’t let the four-star rating fool you, as this resort will still offer vacationers a luxury stay!

It also comes at the highest price point on this list!

The Travaasa Hana has enough luxury to have earned a AAA Four-Diamond award. It was voted the number one boutique hotel in Maui along with the number one experiential retreat in Maui!

Travaasa boasts of a packed schedule of activities from adventure to fitness to culture. Whatever you want to do, Travaasa has it. Opt to take a horseback ride on a remote trail along one of Maui’s scenic coasts. Or take part in the traditional Hawaiian throw net fishing, a different way to catch fish that leaves the pole and bait behind.

The hotel has a range of rooms, all of which have an upgraded retreat vibe, with wood-paneled ceilings and stunning views of the ocean and grounds.

9. Wailea Beach Villas

Wailea Beach Villas via Booking.com

The Wailea Beach Villas hotel on Maui’s southwest coast is a four-star resort that holds its own against its five-star neighbors!

Standing on twelve acres of shoreline, the beauty of Maui surrounds this resort: Wailea Beach and tropical landscapes! The walk to the beach is easy, too. If you would rather stay on the grounds, the resort’s infinity pool borders the sand.

The villas are available in large two-bedroom and four-bedroom configurations. Even the smallest villa has over 2,500 square feet of space! The accommodations all have full kitchens, bedrooms, and stunning bathroom decor. Everything you need for a fantastic stay in Maui!

The resort staff aim to cater to every need (or whim) you may have. They’ll happily stock your fridge for you before your arrival so that you do not spend your first day hungry and in search of food.

10. Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

Head over to Maui’s northwest coast and you will find the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa at Kaanapali Beach. This four-star resort is a more affordable luxury option for travelers. If you want luxury but aren’t looking to splurge too much on the accommodations, this is for you!

This upscale resort is massive and spread out over 40 acres of lush Hawaiian grounds with shopping and dining nearby.

Get ready to share your stay with the hotel’s permanent residents: penguins! Yup, the Hyatt is home to a group of penguins who are kind enough to offer a meet and greet session during their morning feeding times, at 9:30am sharp!

The vast space means lots of great walking paths throughout the grounds and along the beach. You can enjoy the great weather and warm water at Kaanapali Beach during the day and take part in a private beach-side private dinner as well in the evening.

The guest rooms are just beautiful! The bed linens and pillows are pure white, making you feel as if you are floating on a cloud. The furniture and accents are shades of dark wood and green, complementing the tropical landscape in Maui.

11. Marriott Wailea Beach Resort

Marriott Wailea Beach Resort via Booking.com

One of Marriott’s best hotels in Hawaii, and quite possibly in the United States, is the four-star Wailea Beach Resort. This is a five-star hotel masquerading as a four-star. I can only imagine that the hotel was docked one point due to its oceanfront location on a cliff side instead of directly on a beach. Luckily, the walk to the sand is short. Plus, the lower cost makes for an absolute bargain for what you gain!

So, what should you expect when staying at the Wailea Beach Resort? Modern guestrooms with minimal decor, perfect for a relaxing and uncluttered stay. The suites are elevated with incredible views of the ocean and neighboring Moloka’i island. All bathroom fixtures are brand new and countertops are a beautiful white and gray quartz.

The resort offers some unique dining options in the form of breezy outdoor patio restaurants, a luxurious indoor space, and even a casual food truck!

Golfers will also find a welcome home at the Wailea Beach Resort since the property has three championship golf courses at 18-holes each.

It’s definitely one of the best luxury hotels in Maui!

12. Lumeria Maui

Lumeria Maui via Booking.com

In the north of Hawaii’s island of Maui, near Makawao, you will find the four-stay luxury Lumeria Maui retreat. Visitors stay at the Lumeria for a guaranteed restful, educational, and zen experience.

The concept behind Lumeria is to bring you inner peace, healing, and personal growth. Naturally, the Lumeria offers endless classes on meditation, metaphysical studies, dance, yoga, and much more! Even the grounds are designed to promote reflection and the art of being present.

The resort is smaller than most at only 24 guest rooms. However, this makes for a tight-knit and immersive experience for all of its guests.

The standard services are available to all including daily housekeeping, WiFi, mini-fridge, in addition to the aforementioned daily classes and activities. Dining is available at the resort and consists of fresh farm-to-table meals using locally sourced ingredients.

You can book it here.

In conclusion…

I hope you can see just how luxurious your Maui vacation can be!

And I think it’s safe to say that no matter which of these luxury hotels in Maui you choose, you’re bound to enjoy your time on the island. With aloha vibes, Hawaiian hospitality, and vitamin sea, you’re set!
